Should I send my characters to trash as well?

Well, I started writing a novel, but I just can't write it anymore, it's cr*p. My principal character is such a Mary-sue. But I created a clan of vampires (oh yes, vampires) that are absolutely wonderful! They are great characters, tangible characters, with great past and history. So I was wondering, should I keep them, and maybe turn them in something else than vampires? If so, what do you recommend they can be? (definitely not human!) if you help me, I'd really appreciate it!
