How do you get over rejection without losing all your self esteem?

I really liked this guy but he told me I wasn't attractive enough and had bad hair, clothes and shoes and then he said I was too inexperienced in relationships (because I have only dated one other person). He was insulting my education and my mind and said there are a lot of other girls he would go out with first. I feel so bad about myself now. I feel just like rubbish on the ground and this guy was 40, so not a child. He just put me down in every way imaginable.
